The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Northern Cape is calling on the MEC of COGHSTA, Bentley Vass, to urgently dismiss Kai !Garib ANC ward councillor Martin Papiers, who has greedily been devouring funds that vulnerable community members are being robbed of.
I have called on the SASSA national office to investigate Martin Papiers, as our alarm bells have been ignored by the local SASSA office.
It’s not right that a working councillor is earning a grant meant for people in the most vulnerable of positions.
It is reported that Papiers continued drawing the disability grant from SASSA since his inauguration as ward councillor in August 2016.
But, legally speaking, one only qualifies for a disability grant if you do not earn more than R78 120 if you are single or R 156 240 if you are married.
Papiers’ confidence in his fellow companions at the SASSA branch in Keimoes has resulted in him arrogantly challenging community members who, on numerous occasions, reported him to local SASSA officials, to no avail.
These officials are aware of Papiers’ daylight robbery of state funds, but choose to turn a blind eye.
Social Services at national level need to tighten their grip on provincial branches as members who are favoured by local government receive special treatment that ultimately affects those who really need these grants.
It is utterly disgraceful for members who receive salaries above the breadline, to continue stealing from those who placed them in their high chair positions.
Martin Papiers, the Kai !Garib municipality and the SASSA branch in that area are all playing ignorant to the fact that they are stealing the bread and butter that the disabled people desperately yearn for.
The DA will be reporting this matter to the Minister of Social Services, SASSA National and COGHSTA.
Vultures stealing and encouraging theft from vulnerable community members need to be stopped completely.
It is clear that social services in this province only care for those who have sworn allegiances to the ANC. This is how the rich stay rich.
They continue devouring state funds and nobody knows when they will be satisfied.
Only a DA-led government will ensure that our most vulnerable people and their needs are prioritised and that they are not left behind.
