The Democratic Alliance notes that fraudster John Block has been granted leave to appeal his conviction in the Trifecta-case at the Supreme Court of Appeal. While we respect his right to lodge an appeal, we view this as a desperate attempt to avoid that prison cell waiting for him.
We believe that John Block was found guilty on very serious charges. He did not accidentally benefit from government deals, but deliberately used his influence and power to score himself some kickbacks. This happened at the cost of service delivery to the poorest of the poor.
The fact that he is trying to wriggle free from the long arm of the law shows that he is not willing to accept responsibility for his criminal wrongdoing.
