The DA is shocked by the brutal murder of 71-year old Kat Fourie, who was killed on his Kuruman plot yesterday afternoon.
Fourie’s throat was allegedly slit by the perpetrator and his body was hidden under a trailer. When his wife returned home, she was forced into her vehicle by the perpetrator who drove off with her. She is currently recovering in the Kathu Hospital.
The DA condemns the cold blooded murder and is devastated by the senseless loss of life of Kat Fourie. Kat Fourie was a popular resident of Kuruman. He was caring towards all people and loved by many. He will be sorely missed.
Kat Fourie’s murder serves to highlight the violent nature of the Northern Cape. It is increasingly clear that our residents are no longer safe anywhere in this province and that they are vulnerable, even in their own homes.
There can be no denying that more needs to be done to address crime in our province and in our country.
Well coordinated and urgent efforts by SAPS are urgently required if the police are ever to take back their hold on crime. We need more police officers, better training and additional vehicles in the Northern Cape. Without these basic crime fighting tools, crime will continue to destroy the freedoms which South Africans deserve.
The DA sends our deepest condolences to Kat Fourie’s wife, children and grandchildren. We also wish her a speedy recovery.
