The Democratic Alliance in the Northern Cape notes that judgement in the DA’s bid to remove Mangaliso Matika as mayor of Sol Plaatje has been reserved until the 31st of August.
Arguments were heard today in the Northern Cape High Court in the DA’s application to uphold the outcome of the special council meeting held in July, where a majority of councillors present passed a motion of no confidence in Matika.
We remain confident that our case is strong.
Matika has long since lost legitimacy to lead the council as mayor. His stubborn refusal, to listen to the pleas of the community, councillors and even members of his own party to step down unmasking him as an individual who is greedy for power and who will cling to power at all costs. This type of behaviour is common in the ANC and shows that the party has lost the ability to self-correct. Indeed, the ANC has gone to extreme lengths to protect this one man while Kimberley burned.
Only a DA-led administration can bring clean governance and ensure the delivery of municipal services to all residents, irrespective of their political affiliation.
