The Democratic Alliance (DA) has today, submitted a formal request to the Acting Speaker of Sol Plaatjie Municipality, Ben Springbok, requesting a Special Council meeting for the tabling of a motion of exigency to remove Mayor Mangaliso Matika.
Mayor Matika has plunged Sol Plaatjie municipality into turmoil due to to a crisis of confidence in his ability to solve the numerous service delivery challenges facing residents in the municipality.
The meeting is scheduled to take place either on Tuesday 24 July or Wednesday 25 July 2018 at 09:00.
Our motion has support from a multi-party collective comprising the DA, ANC, FF Plus and an independent councilor representing Ritchie.
The multi-party support is a clear indication that Matika’s popularity has declined, even within the ranks of the ANC. Most importantly, he no longer has the support of residents of the municipality to continue in his position as mayor.
The DA has been vocal in the charge to remove Matika from his position as mayor. We will continue to raise our voices in the fight for clean governance in Sol Plaatje.
A DA-led administration will ensure that Sol Plaatje is managed by honest, competent leadership who prioritises the needs of the people above the needs of the politicians.
