DA urges communities to attend public hearings on expropriation without compensation
20 June 2018
Release: immediate
The DA encourages all citizens of the Northern Cape to come out in their numbers next week to attend the public hearings on land reform that will be taking place across the province.
It is critical that all South Africans have their voices heard or risk having ownership of their land and property taken away.
The DA calls on all sectors of society to stand up for your rights to own land and property.
We are against the ANC & EFF proposal to change the Constitution to allow government to expropriate land without compensation so that all property and land is owned by the state, and make citizens rent their homes and land from the state for life.
The DA recognises the urgent need to speed up true land reform.
Under the DA’s plan, we will return land to the people through the biggest land redistribution programme in South African history.
Section 25 of the Constitution is not an inhibitor to land reform. Where the DA governs, we have been able to change the lives of our people through an accelerated title deeds transfer programme and successful land reform projects.
Only the DA cares about fighting for justice through land reform.
Contrary to the ANC and the EFF, the DA will protect the property rights of our people. We want land reform that makes the people land owners, not life-long tenants.
The Northern Cape is desperate for the kind of change that only a DA-led government can deliver.
The public hearings have been scheduled to take place as follows:
Tuesday, 26th June 2018
Springbok
Wednesday, 27th June 2018
Upington
Thursday, 28th June 2018
Kuruman
Friday, 29th June 2018
Kimberley
