Dying diggers of Namaqualand need saving

The Democratic Alliance notes that the ANC in the Z.F. Mcgawu region has written to the Kgatelopele Local Municipality to inform the municipality that it had terminated the membership of councillor Rodney Lessing.
The declaration of this vacancy is likely to pave the way for the reinstatement of former councillor, Paulus Mcgera, one of the alleged masterminds in the murder of DA Councillor, Johannes Baaitjies and his business partner.
Mcgera faced charges relating to the kidnapping and assassination of DA councillor, Johannes Baaitjies, and his business partner, Nouse Shuping, in 2016. He has not been found innocent of these charges, but the death of a key witness under mysterious circumstances led to the withdrawal of charges against him. The trial continues for his five co-accused, who were part of a conspiracy to murder the DA’s representative. It is very coincidental that the mysterious death of the key witness allowed for Mcgera to be reinstated.
The ANC continues to play politics and its refusal to accept it has lost power in the municipality has destabilised the work of the municipality entirely. It has now been shown that the ANC will steal and will kill to cling on to power.
The ANC wants to reinstate Mcgera because he will spill the beans about the Baaitjies assassination. He has been unemployed since his resignation and it is believed that he is threatening the ANC that he will give damning evidence to the prosecution. One of the co-accused, Zonisele Magawu, reportedly started receiving a monthly salary at the behest of the ANC caucus after the assassination took place. These monthly payments and the proposed reinstatement of Mcgera shows how complicit the ANC is in the assassination.
The proposed reinstatement of Mcgera is likely to lead to community protests, as the community has already rejected him as councillor. The community is rightfully angry at the ANC’s underhanded tactics.
The only way to bring change to the municipality is through a DA-led administration.
