The DA has reported ANC Member of the Provincial Legislature, Thapelo Dithebe MPL, to the Northern Cape Provincial Legislature’s (NCPL) Ethics Committee after it came to light that he was allegedly involved in a brawl with a young man from Warrenton.
Dithebe appeared in the Warrenton Magistrates Court on Friday, 25 August 2017 on a charge of assault with the intention to do grievous bodily harm. This comes after he allegedly got embroiled in a fight whilst doing party political work. The case was postponed until 14 September 2017 for further investigation. (Court Case number: 311/17; SAPS Case Number: 60/08/2017).
The DA views Dithebe’s behaviour as completely unacceptable.
Dithebe’s conduct is not in line with the values and principles of the NCPL’s Code of Ethics and Conduct. His alleged involvement in a criminal offence has brought the image of the legislature into serious disrepute.
A member must, at all times, promote and support ethical behaviour and set an example.
We cannot condone a situation whereby an MPL, who was voted into power by the people of this province, fails to resolve conflict in the public interest.
Dithebe has failed this mandate and must be held to account to the legislature for his bad behavior.
