The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Northern Cape is pleased with our by-election win in Ward 28 of Sol Plaatje municipality, yesterday. We believe that this victory is the precursor to a greater DA victory for the province come the 8th of May.While the by-election was characterized by a low voter turnout of only 49,85%, we still enjoyed an outright majority and have managed to safely keep this longstanding DA ward blue. This is despite ANC trickery, that literally saw the ANC buying votes with R100 notes yesterday, in a frenzied attempt to secure votes. The DA congratulates our candidate, Herbert Jaftha, on his win.Herbert is a proud resident of Colville for 52 years already. He served the Sol Plaatje Municipality as an Electrical Apprentice and Market Manager and retired as a resorts manager at the Sol Plaatje Municipality. He further holds an NQF 6 Qualification in Public Management obtained from the University of Free State. We have no doubt that he has the experience and the passion required to properly serve the people of Colville, Beaconsfield and Greenside. The DA further wishes to thank residents of Ward 28 for their continued vote of confidence in the DA.Only change under a DA government, will speed up basic delivery and build One South Africa for All.
