The Democratic Alliance in the Northern Cape reiterates its earlier call to the MEC for Health, Fufe Makatong, to ensure that the necessary payments are made for the community health centre in Port Nolloth to finally be completed.
I conducted an oversight inspection of the site of the hospital this morning. It is closed and abandoned. No construction is taking place. The facility was already supposed to have been completed in 2016 and still the doors cannot be opened. It is a beautiful facility intended to deliver a great range of medical services, but the failing ANC has delayed the completion thereof.
After reports emerged earlier this year that the contractors downed tools due to persistent non-payment of invoices by the department of Health to IDT, the Office of the MEC pledged to investigate and ensure that payments are made.
Does the department not have the money to settle its accounts or does the ANC simply not care that their uncaring laziness deprives the people of Port Nolloth of access to medical care?
It is clear that only change under a DA-led administration can bring back dignity to our people and speed up the delivery of basic services.
