The DA condemns the way in which the ANC consistently exploits the family members of local struggle hero, Saki Makame, by parading them around during election campaigns and making empty promises, only to drop them like a hot potato soon after the ballot boxes have closed.
Almost a year ago, the local ANC installed an indoor flushable toilet for 86-year old Maria Makame. However, the toilet is leaking and nothing has come of the ANC’s assurances that it will be repaired.
Furthermore, Mrs. Makame’s grandson, Boetshepo, is also still waiting on a commitment, made over year ago by the ANC to set up a trust fund for him and his cousin to attend university.
It is deplorable that the Makame’s are treated as nothing more than a voting commodity to the ANC.
The ruling party conveniently showcases the Makames as symbols of the ANC in order to win votes, and then rejects them until the next round of campaigning.
This is not the same ethical and disciplined ANC that Saki Makame died for during the riots of 1986 in the fight for freedom. Instead, this is an opportunistic ANC, fuelled by desperation to stay in power at all costs, no matter how immoral.
The DA will work hard in Magareng to expose the truth about how the once honourable ANC has died under a corrupt and self serving leadership. We will also work hard to convince locals that the time has come to remove the ANC from power.
Unlike the ANC, the DA does care for our people. We don’t believe in manipulating people to vote for us with empty promises but rather in winning votes with our significant track record in good governance.
