Note to Editors: The following is an extract of remarks made by the DA Northern Cape Premier Candidate, Andrew Louw, at a press conference to introduce candidates contesting the upcoming by-elections in the Sol Plaatje Local Municipality. He was accompanied by DA Team One South Africa Spokesperson Solly Malatsi, DA Team One South Africa Spokesperson on Women Nomafrench Mbombo and DA Northern Cape Provincial Chairperson, Harold McGluwa.
Over the past year, residents have become increasingly dissatisfied and unhappy with the direction in which the failing ANC has taken the Sol Plaatje Local Municipality. Our once sparkling city still bears the scars of civil unrest, businesses are still counting the costs of shutdowns and there is still no stability in council.

The upcoming by-elections present an opportunity for residents to vote for real change that puts the people first. Even with Patrick Mabilo at the steering wheel, the failing ANC still remains the same broken vehicle which is incapable of developing the municipality, delivering job opportunities and speeding up the delivery of basic services.
We will be fielding candidates in all seven of the wards which will be contested and our choices are:
Ward 9: Catherine du Plessis. Catherine is passionate about opening up access to real, long-term jobs and ending illegal practices, like carpet interviews which undermines the rights and dignity of women.
Ward 11: George du Plooy. George wants to improve and speed up the delivery of basic services in his ward, where many people have been left behind.
Ward 12: Lebogang Maruping. Lebogang was a former candidate in the same ward. He is a young activist who is very involved with the party and its activities. He will work tirelessly to stop corruption and
Ward 13: Jeffrey Fembers. Jeffrey is an active community leader with experience in resolving problems within his area. He is enthusiastic about improving the delivery of basic services and improving access to jobs, as poverty is a real problem in his ward.
Ward 16: Max Kajarra. Max has been involved with the party for a long time and he is focused on the delivery of basic services to all. He wants to ensure that opportunities are created for his community, especially as it relates to jobs and basic service delivery.
Ward 19: Tebogo Molusi. Tebogo is a young leader in the party who is passionate about creating opportunities for the youth in his community. He wants to encourage the youth to register and to be politically active in shaping the direction our country is taking.
Ward 32: Hansie Sibongo. As a young man, Hansie believes in the importance of creating job opportunities for the youth as many young people in Platfontein are locked outside without opportunities of a brighter future.
The failing ANC has been given too many second chances, and has shown itself to be a party of empty promises. Voters in this by-election have two choices: vote for liars and looters in the ANC or vote for the DA, which is committed to bring real change that builds One South Africa for All and puts the people first.
We are confident that these candidates can bring stability, speed up the delivery of basic services, stop to corruption, open access to real, long-term jobs and ensure that residents are safe in their communities.
A vote for the DA is a vote for a brighter future.
