ANC loots electricity for its birthday celebrations – mayor of Kgatelopele must pay up
by Ofentse Mokae, MPL – DA Northern Cape Provincial Spokesperson on Transport, Safety & Liaison Date: 13 March 2020Release: Immediate It was recently brought to the attention of the Democratic Alliance (DA) that there is no consequence management for police officers in instances where criminal charges against police officials fell away, yet internal investigations found them guilty. The DA knows of at least four stock theft incidents where police officials from the Griekwastad police station were implicated and internal investigations found them guilty. In a separate case, an internal investigation found a police officer from Prieska guilty of rape. While the criminal charges were withdrawn, these internal investigative reports, which have guilty verdicts, are lying on the desk of Police Commissioner Risimati Shivuri. Yet, for some reason, he is turning a blind eye to criminal activity by his own officers. The DA finds it unacceptable that these police officials are still earning a salary and occupy SAPS offices when they are no different to the criminals they are meant to be hunting. With such questionable behavior and nonchalance from police officials, it is no wonder that citizens have lost faith in SAPS.The DA has written to Shivuri but to date we have yet to receive a response from his office. Shivuri must be pressured into finalizing these investigations so that disciplinary steps against these criminals can proceed. We will now escalate this matter to the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) for further investigation.Residents from all corners of our province deserve an honest police service that upholds standards of high integrity and sound judgment.
