Although voter turnout was low at yesterday’s by-election in Prieska, Ward 2, the DA is satisfied with its steady 4% growth in voter percentage. The results speak to the fact that the DA remains the only political party in the country with a consistent track record of growth.
Meanwhile, the fact that the ANC voter percentage fell by 8%, ultimately dropping below 50%, is a clear sign that the people of the Northern Cape are increasingly disillusioned by the ruling party. It also shows that people are increasingly realising that the ANC has become too corrupted and that it will never be able to self-correct, regardless of who steers the party.
We are pleased that more and more residents, who are desperate for change, are transferring their support to the DA. We continue to prove that where the DA governs, we are getting rid of corruption, creating opportunities and changing things for the better.
The DA will continue with our robust election campaign.
We are on a mission to govern South Africa and the Northern Cape in coalition governments, come 2019.
This said, we want to discourage voters from remaining silent on voting days, instead appealing to everyone who has lost hope in South Africa, to make a stand for their future by giving the DA an opportunity to usher in a New Beginning in 2019.
