The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Northern Cape (NC) will lobby the reasons for the incomplete police station in Riemvasmaak with the Provincial Police Commissioner, Lt Gen Risimati Shivuri and the MEC for Transport, Safety & Liaison, Nomandla Bloem.Residents in the area were up in arms over the mismanagement of public funds and nepotism that continues to rob the locals from business opportunities. The community expressed their concerns over the illegal tender processes that are currently benefitting only acquainted cadres. Residents are claiming that an amount of R9, 7 million which was reserved for the development of SMME’s in the community, is managed by fraudulent and selfish political motives.Locals in the area are also demanding that Ward 10 councillor, Walter Klim, immediately be recused of all his council duties and from his seat within the municipality as they believe that he is the driver of all mismanagement of public funds. The empty slab of foundation of what was supposed to be a built Police Station have been reportedly standing idle for months while this community has had to stare at the empty shell with hopes of one day having access to a nearby police station.A tender worth over R41 million was awarded to a company named Zidlaphi Kgomo and Associates in 2018 and scheduled for completion between September 2019 – March 2021.It is deplorable for a single community to be robbed of their basic right to safety and not have access to a walk-in police station as well as to be denied the opportunity to better their livelihoods. The DA will investigate the motives of the tender processes as well as the reasons behind the status of this incomplete police station and will raise the matter with Bloem and Shivuri as a matter of urgency. We will leave no stone unturned until Riemvasmaak residents receive a fair and legal chance to partake in tender processes and to see SMME’s developed. It is important to prioritise the growth and development of all South Africans by giving them a chance to improve their livelihoods instead of watching greedy cadres fill their pockets to the brim with public funds. |
