The Democratic Alliance condemns the reported racial attack on Mr Shimmy Mosienyane in Hartswater yesterday.
Mr Mosienyane was allegedly run over by a farmer, who also called him the K-word, whilst escaping police force during the ongoing protests in Hartswater. He suffered spinal injuries and is awaiting surgery in Kimberley Hospital.
The DA today paid a visit to Mosienyane to console him and wish him a full recovery. See photos here and here.
We call on the people of the Northern Cape to allow for the law to take its course, and not take matters into their own hands.
Without preempting the outcome of the court case, we wish to expressly state that racism has no place in the Northern Cape or in South Africa.
Apartheid was an evil system and its legacy must come to an end. The dignity of all South Africans must be upheld at all times and those who choose to disrespect and hurt others because of the colour of their skin, have no place in society. We are better together.
