The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Northern Cape is calling on the MEC of Education, Martha Bartlett to see to it that the learner transport in Vosburg is operationalised as a matter of urgency.
This comes after the school bus has reportedly been stranded without diesel, resulting in scholars either missing out on class or having to find their own means to get to school during this exam period.
Yesterday, during the Annual Report Committee Meeting for the Department of Education, the committee noted that scholar transport has been delivering better results than in previous financial years but that there are still many issues and concerns that need to be addressed for this function to go smoothly.
The safety of learners should be prioritised and as such, vehicles should always be roadworthy and functional. Issues of non-compliance of service providers who are transporting learners, must also be dealt with.
We cannot afford such minor issues to derail the education of our learners, especially during exams.
We hope the MEC will speedily see to it that transport services in Vosburg get back on the road as soon as possible.
Only change under a DA-led government will ensure that scholars and their needs are prioritised to avoid minor issues with dire consequences.
